Norges Bank holds rates and hints at easing path in 2025

Central bank says core inflation of more than 3% precludes cuts this year

Norway’s central bank today (September 19) held its policy rate at 4.5%.

Norges Bank’s rate-setting committee said it was “concerned with the possibility that if the policy rate is lowered prematurely, inflation could remain above target for too long”.

It had therefore decided to hold the rate until the end of the year, after which it would be “gradually reduced”.

The bank’s updated forecast implies a “slightly faster rate reduction through next year” than it had been planning in June.
