UK will not hit 2% inflation target over long term – BoE’s Mann

MPC member says sluggish productivity growth is also acting as ‘speed limit’ for economy

The UK economy faces headwinds from both higher inflation and low productivity growth, according to an external member of the Bank of England’s monetary policy committee.

In a speech at the Aon Insights Series 2026 in London today (March 14), Catherine Mann said the central bank would not hit its 2% inflation target “in the near term or the longer term” and that growth in the UK had not presented a “good picture”.
