People: President’s nephew confirmed as BI deputy governor

Plus new governor in Malawi and Croatia’s vice-governor to become minister

Indonesia’s parliament today (January 27) confirmed Thomas Djiwandono as a deputy governor of the country’s central bank. Djiwandono, the nephew of Indonesia’s president Prabowo Subianto, was previously deputy finance minister. The day after reports emerged on January 19 that Djiwandono was being nominated as deputy governor, the rupiah fell to a level close to the record low it reached in April 2025. Some analysts felt the drop was connected with market participants’ concerns about the impact
