People: Central banks of Spain and Afghanistan appoint new deputy governors

Spain: Javier Alonso Ruiz-Ojeda has been appointed deputy governor of the Bank of Spain, following a decision by the Council of Ministers. He took up his new role on January 1.

Alonso joined the Spanish central bank in 1977 to work in the department of control, budget and accounting. He progressed through the echelons at the regulator, serving as an economist, as well as director of operations and director of payments.
