Sarb monetary policy committee does not suffer from ‘groupthink’ – Kganyago

Sarb governor says there are often disagreements when it comes to policy decisions

Disagreements during monetary policy discussions should not be shied away from, the governor of the South African Reserve Bank (Sarb) has said.

Speaking in Durban on June 10, Lesetja Kganyago said disagreements between the Sarb’s monetary policy committee were “quite common”, but argued that a difference in views reflected an “absence of groupthink”.

“Of the past 16 meetings, only half were unanimous. In the other seven, there were 4–2 splits on three occasions, 5–1 splits on three occasions
