Japanese government stresses importance of BoJ independence

Ministers’ comments come after 10-year JGB yields spike to near 30-year highs

Japanese government ministers today (July 10) stressed the importance of central bank independence for market confidence after bond yields shot to record highs.

Domestic media reported that Minoru Kiuchi, minister of state for economic and fiscal policy, had told a press conference the Bank of Japan’s independence must be respected when guiding monetary policy. He said the government planned to change the wording of a draft economic policy document to reflect this.
