The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision’s latest framework on climate risk disclosure is a step in the right direction despite its voluntary nature, a former senior central bank official has said.

The Basel Committee on June 13 published its framework for the disclosure of climate-related financial risks. In a departure from the original consultation in November 2023, which proposed making some elements mandatory, the committee made the framework voluntary.
