Cambodia ‘caps microfinance interest rates’ – local media

Cambodia’s central bank has capped interest rates charged by the country’s microfinance lenders, according to local media reports.

Local media sources reported that the National Bank of Cambodia had announced that microfinance companies would have to charge a maximum of 18% annual interest rates on loans, effective from April 1.

The same sources reported concern over the possible impact of the move among some observers of the local economy. A local business analyst told a Cambodian newspaper
