Deposit insurance only one part of safety net – IMF study
Co-operation with resolution regime crucial to effective protection, researchers say
A deposit insurance scheme must be integrated with other protection tools if it is to be effective, staff researchers at the International Monetary Fund have said.
In a paper published on March 25, researchers at the IMF’s monetary and capital markets department outline their views of what a robust deposit protection system should look like. This is the first time since 2006 that IMF staff have expressed their views on the full spectrum of deposit insurance policy issues.
