‘Opaque’ AI poses supervisory challenge, says BdF’s Beau

Deputy governor says focus should be on data required for ‘new elements’ of EU’s AI act

Prudential authorities face challenges related to the “explainability” of artificial intelligence’s “increasingly opaque” algorithms, the deputy governor of France’s central bank has said.

In a speech at the Bank of Portugal’s conference on AI and financial stability on October 27, Denis Beau called on central banks to develop an “AI system assessment methodology” to better understand how the technology was being used in the world of finance.
