IMF to provide Sri Lanka with additional $347m in financing

Mission chief says central bank should continue to be independent and build reserves

The International Monetary Fund has reached an agreement with Sri Lanka’s government to provide it with a further $347 million under the four-year funding arrangement that both parties entered into in 2023.

The IMF said in a statement that the agreement had been reached after its staff concluded a visit to Sri Lanka on October 9 in which they held meetings with the country’s president, central bank governor, finance minister and others. The visit was part of the institution’s fifth review of its
