Secretary-general says it would be unwise to quit with finish line so close

The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision is close to the finish of its post-crisis “marathon” and should not give up now, William Coen said on October 13.

In an extended running-based metaphor, the Basel Committee secretary-general said standard setters are in the “last few metres” of their marathon. “With the finish line in sight, it’s fairly clear what the result will be,” he told an audience in Washington, DC.
