BIS research says macro-pru could help African central banks

Paper examines how African central banks react to external shocks

Economists from the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) have advised African central banks to consider using macro-prudential polices to build “greater resilience” against adverse external conditions, setting out their ideas in a paper published on August 24.

Benedicte Vibe Christensen and Christian Upper discuss how African economies have reacted to certain shocks over the past few decades and cross-examine their policy responses against those of other emerging markets.
