Sarb expands financial supervision

South Africa is in the process of creating the institutional structure to handle macro- and micro-prudential policies within the South African Reserve Bank (Sarb), deputy governor François Groepe explained in a speech today (August 18).

The central bank currently oversees the financial system through the Financial Stability Committee (FSC). The supervision and regulation of individual institutions corresponds to the bank supervision department, which is about to be transformed into a prudential
