Malaysian deputy laments ‘price distortion’ between cheques and electronic payments

Muhammad bin Ibrahim, a Bank Negara Malaysia deputy governor, stressed the importance of correcting the "price distortion" between cheques and electronic payments to realise the vision of a more efficient payments industry

Ibrahim told an audience at the central bank's Payment System Forum that Malaysia "remains a high user of cheques and cash despite the progress that has been achieved in the electronic payment infrastructure".

The population uses 6.9 cheques per capita per year. Ibrahim noted
