G7 central banks warn quantum is in ‘early stages of experimentation’
Readying financial system for Q-day is ‘not a simple substitution exercise’, say authorities
Quantum computing is transitioning from academic research into the early stages of experimentation, a new report from Group of Seven central banks finds.
In the report, published on May 11, the central banks of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US warn there is a “non-negligible probability that a cryptographically relevant quantum computer could emerge over the coming decade”.
Quantum computers utilise qubits – which, as opposed to classical bits, can exist in multiple states
