Arab countries must improve funding of small businesses – IMF’s Lagarde

SMEs make up 96% of Arab world’s businesses but get only 7% of bank loans – IMF chief

Arab countries’ financial inclusion strategies currently neglect small and medium-sized enterprises, and that needs to change, IMF managing director Christine Lagarde said. 

“We found that promoting SME financial inclusion requires a holistic approach,” Lagarde said at a summit in Dubai on February 10.

Lagarde added the IMF was planning to ensure small and medium-sized businesses were not being excluded from the financial system.
