Atlanta Fed chief urges caution amid ‘big pause’ in US rates

Bostic compares US central bank to car driving through fog, and says now may be the time to pull over

The US Federal Reserve should be patient and continue to hold monetary policy, the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta has said.  

In a speech at the city’s Emory University on April 14, Raphael Bostic said: “Moving too boldly with our policy in any direction wouldn’t be prudent at the moment.” 

The governor compared the Fed to a driver in fog: when the fog is thick, you slow down; and when it is really thick, you stop. He added that, as far as he was concerned, the current situation
