SNB profits rise to $28.5 billion

Central bank reaffirms pledge to halt appreciation of the franc

The Swiss National Bank

The profits of the Swiss National Bank (SNB) increased to Sfr26.3 billion ($28.5 billion) in 2021, mainly as a result of higher equity prices. In 2020, the SNB had recorded profits of Sfr20.9 billion.

In 2021, “there was a divergence between bond and equity valuations”, says the central bank in a statement. “A price loss of Sfr16.1 billion was recorded on interest-bearing paper and instruments. Equity securities and instruments on the other hand registered a price gain of Sfr37.1 billion.”
