Overall burden of taxes is low by OECD standards, economists say

Economists at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago have brought some data to bear on the US debate over tax reform, publishing a comparison of tax rates that shows the US has fairly low rates already by global standards.

Lorenz Jarass, Anthony Tokman and Mark Wright point out that the US has the fourth lowest overall tax burden among the countries of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. They go on to compare US corporate tax rates – a particular target for Republican tax
