Experts praise US Treasury’s decision to stop minting pennies, but question policy’s implementation

Economists have praised the US Treasury’s decision to phase out the production of pennies, though some have questioned the way in which the policy will be implemented.

The Treasury, which announced the decision on May 22, said production of one cent coins would cease once the Treasury had run out of blanks, which it expects will happen by early next year.
