BIS paper urges statistics expansion


The financial crisis has "opened a window of opportunity" to address the gaps in the statistics available to policy-makers, according to a working paper published by the Bank for International Settlements today.

The paper – The Great Financial Crisis: Setting Priorities for New Statistics, by Claudio Borio – identifies the paradox of a growing amount of data in the "internet age" and the stark absence of useful information on the health of global financial systems.

Borio highlights two main
