Islamic banks affected differently by crunch: IMF

IMF research published Wednesday suggests that Islamic banks have been affected differently than conventional banks during the crisis.

Factors related to Islamic banks' business model helped limit the adverse impact on profitability in 2008, while weaknesses in the risk management practices of some Islamic banks led to a larger decline in profitability in 2009 compared to conventional banks, the paper says.

Islamic banks' saw more credit and asset growth than conventional banks in 2008-09
