Sovereign wealth fund could help fiscal discipline in Algeria, says IMF


The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has called on Algeria to consider establishing a sovereign wealth fund as part of a set of measures aimed at achieving "fiscal sustainability" in the north African country, as fears grow that inflationary pressures could be returning.

Concluding its Article IV consultation in Algeria, the IMF praised the Bank of Algeria and the government for the "decline in inflation brought about by monetary tightening and fiscal consolidation".
