Omani central bank to join government drive for more SME lending

The Central Bank of Oman is pushing the country's banks to lend more to small and medium- sized enterprises (SMEs) to help combat high levels of unemployment.

Hamood Sangour Al-Zadjali, the central bank's executive president, yesterday backed the government's decision to make SMEs a "thrust area" of the country's economic policy, and said the central bank will issue "appropriate regulations" to encourage SME lending "as and when formal communication" is received from the government.
