US sanctions on Iranian central bank inch closer

On Monday the Senate Armed Services Committee completed its conference on the National Defense Authorization Act for FY12, which includes a "powerful" set of sanctions against the Central Bank of Iran.

Senator Carl Levin, a vocal supporter of the sanctions, said that the negotiating panel – which includes representatives from both the House and the Senate – had adopted the Senate's strong provisions "virtually intact".

The Senate passed a bill earlier this month that included economic sanctions
