Canada hires S&P's Beers as special adviser

The Bank of Canada on Tuesday announced the appointment of David Beers as a special adviser to the governor.

Beers is currently global head of sovereign and international public finance ratings at Standard & Poor's, one of the biggest credit rating agencies in the world. He will serve an 18-month term, beginning on February 1, 2012.

Before joining Standard & Poor's in 1990, Beers worked as an independent consultant and as an economist at various investment dealers and financial institutions
