Wellink throws hat into ring as ECB race continues

Nout Wellink, the president of the Netherlands Bank, on Monday suggested he was open to the idea of heading the European Central Bank (ECB), as speculation on who will land the role continues to intensify.

In comments to the Wall Street Journal, which have been confirmed by the central bank, Wellink said he was following the developing race "with great interest". He said: "I've been in this business for 28 years. I'm a board member of the Dutch central bank [and have been] its chairman for 14
