Polish governor killed in crash

Slawomir Skrzypek, the president of the National Bank of Poland, has died in a plane crash.

The central bank confirmed Skrzypek was onboard an aircraft which crashed in the Smolensk region of Russia on Saturday morning local time. He was travelling with the Polish President Lech Kaczynski and a number of other senior officials. Russian officials have said there were no survivors among the 88 passengers.

The central bank said his deputy,Piotr Wiesiolek, would temporarily become governor.
