Brazil’s Meirelles faces renewed tax fraud allegations


Henrique Meirelles, the governor of the Central Bank of Brazil, could face an investigation over tax fraud, it emerged on Thursday.

The country's attorney-general's office asked the Supreme Court last Friday to commission a probe into the whether Meirelles had committed tax fraud, according to a court spokeswoman. The document is sealed.

Meirelles, who has faced allegations of this nature in the past, appeared sanguine on the prospect of investigation in a statement released by the central bank
