India to get new deputy governor

Subir Gokarn, the chief economist for the Asia Pacific region at Standard & Poor's, a rating agency, will take over from Rakesh Mohan, who stood down as a deputy governor at India's central bank in June.

Gokarn's name has long been mentioned in connection with the post but finance ministry officials only announced the appointment on Wednesday.

Mohan left the central bank to take up a position at Stanford University.

Gokarn is expected to join the central bank soon but an official starting date
