Iraqi central bank officials get skills boost

A five-day workshop offering training to officials from the Central Bank of Iraq was launched Monday 13 November in Bahrain.

The event is being held at the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF) in co-operation with the International Monetary Fund, the BIBF and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

"Bahrain is pleased to be able to host this seminar and to be able to contribute in some way to the rebuilding of Iraq and the promotion of a stable and successful economy serving the needs of its people," said Central Bank of Bahrain governor Rasheed Al Maraj.

"Banking supervision may seem a little remote from most of the headlines that one unfortunately reads about daily life in Iraq today.

"Nonetheless, a healthy financial system is essential to the long-term stability and growth of any economy and Iraq is no exception.
