Taiwan’s central bank seeks oversight over stablecoin issuance
Deputy governor says potentially volatile assets could affect financial stability
Taiwan’s central bank has advised the territory’s financial regulator that it should be consulted over the granting of stablecoin issuance licences.
According to a release, Chu Mei-Lie, the deputy governor of Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan), told legislators on October 30 that stablecoins should be properly regulated to mitigate financial risks. Chu said Taiwan’s approach would be similar to the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (Mica), in that the instruments
