Poll result says Fukui should quit

Nearly half of the respondents to a poll by Kyodo News Service said Bank of Japan governor Toshihiko Fukui should step down from his position, the news agency reported.

The poll revealed a lack of support for Fukui over his investment of 10 mln yen in a fund set up by shareholder activist Yoshiaki Murakami who was arrested on suspicion of insider trading.

According to the telephone survey conducted by Kyodo over the weekend, 49.2 pct of the respondents said Fukui should resign, while 62.4 pct r
