PBOC tells lenders to monitor loans closely

The Shanghai branch of the People's Bank of China has told local lenders to tighten examination of loans to prevent illegal inflows of funds into the stock market, the official Xinhua News Agency reported Tuesday 6 February.

The main Shanghai stock market has risen about 130 pct since the start of last year, raising concerns with financial authorities that mortgage loans and personal loans have been misused for stock investments, the report said.
