Hungary forint regime may change, says minister

Hungary's foreign exchange regime, built around a 4.5% wide flotation band and a crawling peg devaluation, may change next year, finance minister designate Mihaly Varga said on Wednesday.

"We don't know exactly when but in 2001 the revision of the current exchange rate regime may take place," Varga told a news conference. "When the change in the central bank governor's post takes place, we must speak about this issue again," he added.
