Government proposals rejected by bank panel

INDONESIA - An independent panel formed to review proposed changes to Indonesia's central bank law has rejected a proposal that will allow the president to dismiss the central bank's board of governors.

The panel said in a report released by the government Wednesday that the proposed amendment "would make dismissal of the senior management of Bank Indonesia very straightforward, completely negating the independence of the bank."
