Philly Fed president says rate cuts could come late in 2026

Paulson points to variety of factors hampering US labour market

Some further modest adjustments to the federal funds rate could be appropriate late in 2026, the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia has said.

In a speech in the city on January 3, Anna Paulson said rates could be cut further if inflation moderated and the US labour market stabilised, both of which she regarded as likely.

She expressed concern that although GDP in the US was strong, there had been a broad deceleration in the labour market as a result of both supply and demand
