Vice governor appointed to Slovak central bank

SLOVAKIA - Tatra Banka board member Ivan Sramko was appointed a new central bank (NBS) vice-governor by Slovak President Rudolf Schuster in Bratislava on Friday.

Sramko, 44, fills the vacancy left by former deputy governor for banking supervision Jozef Mudrik, whose terms expired eight months ago.

The new vice-governor has been working as a top official at commercial banks since 1991; from 1992-98 he was director general of Istrobanka.

He was elected by Parliament in December 2001 (by secret ballot
