Economists back Bernanke

Private-sector economists have come out in strong support of Ben Bernanke, the embattled chairman of the Federal Reserves, suggesting that the new Obama administration should reappoint him in January 2010.

In a poll of 54 private-sector economists, conducted by the Wall Street Journal, three quarters of the respondents said Bernanke should be reappointed by Barack Obama, the president-elect of the United States.
