Interview with NBP's Leszek Balcerowicz

In an interview with AP, published on Tuesday 3 October, the head of Poland's central bank said the bank is suffering the "most extreme" attacks on its independence since communism fell in 1989.

"The recent attacks were the most extreme in the last 16 years," Balcerowicz told The AP in his office on Tuesday. But, he added, "we have been successful in defending the independence of the central bank so far."

"I was not defending my modest person," he said of his efforts to rebuff government
