Czech PM does not see euro entry before 2009

Czech Prime Minister Vladimir Spidla has said his country will aim to adopt the euro by 2009 at the earliest. This is two years later than the timetable agreed last year.

He said the Czech Republic would enter the euro at least two years later than the 2007 entry date agreed last year by the government and the central bank.

Spidla said that the government wants to be realistic in setting the timetable for joining the euro.
