China concerned over Treasury holdings

Wen Jiabao, China's prime minister, has said that the country, which has the biggest stockpile of United States government debt in the world, is "a little worried" about its US Treasury holdings.

Wen said on Friday that Beijing was calling on the United States "to maintain its good credit, to honour its promises and to guarantee the safety of China's assets." He added that the country would take steps to "fend off risks" by diversifying its $1.946 billion foreign-exchange reserves stockpile.
