New central banking appointments

Usha Thorat took over as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday. She has been executive director of RBI since April 2004 and has been appointed for five years.

Her responsibilities include the management of the currency department, the deposit insurance and credit guarantee corporation, the inspection department, the premises department, rural planning and the credit and urban banks departments.
