An earlier article on sovereign wealth funds¹ offered a "bird's eye" view of the industry and looked at the implications of its rapid growth for central banks, particularly with regard to reserve management. This article focuses exclusively on commodity-based funds, exploring the following three points: the expected growth trajectory of commodity-based wealth; the risks and challenges posed by such growth; and lastly, what policies can address these risks and challenges.
