Advanced economy central banks more likely to make profits

Majority of central banks report profits in most of last five years

Most of the central banks participating in Governance Benchmarks 2023 made a profit in the last fiscal year.

Of the 22 central banks that responded from advanced economy jurisdictions, 65% had done so, as did just over half (53%) of 15 emerging market economy (EME) central banks.

Central banks from countries with advanced economies were also more likely to have consistently made profits in the past five years. Some 59% of those central banks had made a profit five years running, while another
