Central banks’ roles differ by national wealth

Few central banks have task of overseeing sovereign wealth funds

Among participants in the Governance Benchmarks 2023, emerging market central banks are more likely to carry out certain functions than their advanced economy counterparts.

Overall, 53% of 43 responding central banks said they regulated their jurisdiction’s foreign exchange rate. But this reflected a sharp split between central banks from countries with different levels of wealth.
