Majority of banks blend research and policy functions

Only one in five jurisdictions restructured economics unit in the past 12 months

The majority of central banks mix research and policy functions in the structure of their economics functions. The data also shows slightly over one fifth of institutions in the Economic Benchmarks 2022 restructured their economics departments in the past 12 months.

Responses from 30 institutions showed that an overwhelming 25 (83.3%) jurisdictions mixed research and policy functions, while just five (17%) banks have sole research units, a contraction from 25% in the 2021 benchmark, partly
