Printworks owners have seven times more cash staff

Currency departments generally more satisfied with non-staff resources than staffing

Central banks with their own banknote printing facilities have substantially more full-time equivalent (FTE) staff than institutions without a printworks, the Currency Benchmarks 2026 find.

The majority (76.5%) of the 34 central banks in the sample have no printworks. Among the eight (23.5%) that own and operate one, FTE employees average 300.2 individuals with a median of 251 staff.

Those without such an infrastructure have an average of 39.3 FTE employees. The median staff size is 20 workers
