Bolivia’s central bank suspends dollar purchases
Institution says increasing HLAs gave it leeway to meet obligations and mitigate FX market pressure
The Central Bank of Bolivia has temporarily halted its purchases of dollars, saying it had accumulated enough of a buffer.
In a statement on September 7, the central bank said the “highly liquid assets” that form part of its net international reserves had in recent weeks exceeded $1 billion. That had provided the bank with “the necessary leeway to meet international payment obligations and mitigate potential pressures in the foreign exchange market”, it said.
